SAMPLE ISSUES DON'T PHASE DRAKE

Everyone at Orisue is a big fan of Drake, who has been a fan and supporter of our brand since before he hit stardom (see image below of him rockin’ Orisue), so we were more then surprised to hear about some legal trouble he got in recently.  Tila Tequila, of all people, posted an exclusive blog stating that Playboy is suing Drake for copyright infringement. Now hold up a second before your head spins out of control and implodes from how ridiculous it sounds, I’ll break it down.

Drake’s single off his mixtape So Far Gone, “Best I Ever Had”, samples Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds’ song “Falling In Love”.  Apparently Playboy owns that song, and Drake’s camp never cleared the sample so Playboy is now suing well over year a later, better late than never I suppose.

What’s your take on the whole thing? Do you even care about sampling issues? The whole thing doesn’t seem to phase Drake at all who sold almost 500k units first week, and also won a BET award for best artist this past weekend. Congratulations!

Here is the original, “Falling In Love” by Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds

and here’s Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”

There is no doubt where the track is sampled from it even says it on the wiki. Kia Shine sued him also for the line in a wayne song he produced “bigger than you ever done it” everyone is trying to eat off his success, even Dj Absolut made money off the damn song by suing kia shine…. i heard a story about rick james lawyer while in school, he waited to sue mc hammer for “can’t touch” wanted to do so right away lawyer said wait so when they did they could get as much as they could, suing while a song is climbing charts would only stop its progress. the song isn’t in heavy rotation & has likely reached its run so time to collect.

we all know sampling is hip hop.
old folks get salty because the art form is the use of what you have to project a message, some of us dont have the option to play instruments in school, so we make do… <i just say that because the articles on line are followed by comments from people saying hip hop isnt music due to the over use of samples, thats like saying graffiti isnt art cause its on walls or break dancing isnt a art form because like of form and structure

oh yea that is what they say

Its not not getting credit that’s the problem, its not getting paid royalties. That adds up.
