ADVENTURES AROUND WASHINGTON DC

After we wrapped up the GameTime event at MAJOR Friday night, it was time to see what the night life had in store for us. Reek said the spot to go to for the night was definitely Layla. It was Roscoe Dash’s Birthday party hosted by hometown hero Wale. Thanks to Drea for taking care of us on the line and drinks.  Happy Birthday Roscoe, you had the spot jumping!

The next morning Travis and I decided to explore DC.  We got up and headed down to the Georgetown waterfront.  Tanner, Chris’s brother, told us Tony & Joe’s was the spot to go to.  There are special things to be said about a place that has a happy hour that starts at 4PM on a Saturday.  Tony & Joe’s was a hit, if you’re out in Georgetown make sure you try their Hot Crab Dip!

After our lunch fix, we had to make sure we did some lightweight site seeing.  I went to DC 12 years ago and did all the site seeing, but it was just as awesome seeing them all over again.  First stop was the Washington Monument.  From the Washington Monument we walked to the Lincoln Memorial.  In my opinion Honest Abe has to be the illest site to see in all of DC.  The White House was the next stop on the site seeing tour.  This is something you see all the time on the news or just on TV and in movies in general.  All I have to say is it’s a whole lot smaller in person, and the amount of security, police and secret service is no joke!

It’s always great to see what kind of shopping and food places have when you travel, but you can do that anywhere. DC has a lot of history and I’m glad we got to see some of the sites. I definitely recommend you do the same if you ever come to DC.

The next day was the day of the game.  In case you aren’t aware the Redskins and Cowboys share one of the most celebrated rivalries in all of the NFL.  The game was at home and Redskins Nation was out in full force.  We got to the stadium around 4pm and the parking was almost completely sold out.  People had been at the stadium since before noon tailgating.  The stadium is privately owned and you can drink freely as long as you are “responsible”.  Trust all the fans were taking full advantage of this situation.  Mini Redskin tailgate towns like these were set up all across the parking lots around the stadium.

At least half of the people at the stadium were rocking jerseys.  Cooley is definitely a crowd favorite.  I’m not mad that he didn’t play at all last year and fans were showing love like he hasn’t missed a game.

We met up the entire Cooley Clan in the players and press parking lot to tailgate before the game.  The Cooley tailgate was where everyone wanted to be at.  Even the stadium police came by to hang.

Being that LA hasn’t had a football team since ’94 Travs and I have never been to an NFL game.  Our first game was official since Chris hooked it up with access to the field.

The season opener against the cowboys was a nail biter.  The game wasn’t settled until the very last seconds of the game when the Skins stopped the Cowboys run to the end zone, but the Skins left with the win.  Chris had a great game with 6 receptions for 80 yards and we got to hang with the cheerleaders.  All in all it was a great trip!
