The Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art is kicking off an interesting series of performances set to offer a platform for contemporary Los Angeles talent to showcase their craft while continuing to break down preconceived notions that Gangsta-Rap is all the coast has to offer.

The series will take place every third Thursday, from May 17th – October 18th, right in front of the landmark Urban Lights, which sit in front of LACMA.

Join Murs, Eligh, Scarub this Thursday night from 8-10PM, as they reunite and perform as 3MG for the first time in ten years. Although tickets to the first night’s performance is already sold out more info on future performances can be found here on LACMA’s site.

While Slaughterhouse was in Austin for SXSW, they had collected footage and also shot some scenes for the music video to Hammer Dance. We were rolling heavy with the crew in Austin so you know they were laced. Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5’9″ are all seen in throughout the video representing for the O-Team. Getting things in the mail is always fun. Most of the time it’s clothes from other clothing brands, or shoes or even headphones. Today’s package however was definitely out of the norm. Our friends at Disney sent us the press kit for TRON: Uprising. The press kit included a DVD containing a trailer for TRON: Uprising and also the 1st episode, but the real surprise was the light-up identity disc complete with sound effects! Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap

Last night our friends at CSNoWheaties invited us to attend a private screening of Ice-T‘s directorial debut, Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap. The documentary is primarily comprised of a series of intimate interviews from hip-hop and rap’s most prestigious alums and founding fathers. To be completely honest, I was really impressed at the film’s high production value and depth of reporting.

“Hip-hop didn’t invent anything… hip-hop reinvented everything.” – Grandmaster Caz

To hear such heavyweights sit down and discuss the significance, history and importance of hip-hop in their lives was truly the cherry on top. The film certainly holds it down authentically with the likes of Bun B, B-Real, Afrika Bambaataa, Chuck D, Nas and Rakim recounting their own personal experiences, successes, failures and the impact hip-hop has had on their life.

One of the more notable moments in the film occurred when Nas was for his thoughts on why hip-hop and rap continues to get shunned and disrespected by politicians and the media as a whole. Check below for Nas’ response and let us know what you think.
