As we mentioned about a month ago, our buddies Shaun and Aaron Guardado were going to compete in this year’s Orange Crush Demolition Derby which took place at the OC Fair last weekend. Shaun and Aaron both had previously entered once before, however this year, they really felt as if they had the knowledge needed to actually put up a decent fight. If you haven’t watched a Demolition Derby, I suggest you find out when and where the next one is and check it out! The idea behind the Derby is to be the last car running, BUT if you don’t hit a car in each 2 minute intervals, you can be disqualified. Most of the driving is done in reverse as you want to keep the front engine bay clean as possible.
Aaron entered the 2pm show because he waited until the last minute to sign up. Here’s his machine.

Shaun and his Dodge Coronet were set for the main event. Check out this paint job, definitely a looker!

Unfortunately we couldn’t get the camera to the field fast enough for Aaron’s heat. But he explained that he got locked up and chains intertwined with another car about 5 minutes into the derby. He was a sitting duck in the middle of 12 angry drivers. He took a few decent shots but the car actually didn’t have too much damage. Luckily for him, he can use this car in the next challenge.

Heading out of the pit! Its game time!

Shaun was doing pretty damn good until his trunk was pushed into his rear window.

Overall, it was super fun. Its great to be able to get involved with these kind of things that might seem so outside of our industry. Look out for more projects and events with Shaun and Aaron. The two of them are always up to something, usually involving cars or motorcycles. They are counting down the days until the next Derby. We will let you know prior so you can go check it out!
