I just got back from a little 2 week trip back east and I have a gang of shit I need to catch up on. Being out of touch with email for 2 weeks sucks and to top it off we just moved offices, so I’m just trying to get back up to speed.
It was nice getting to be a part of history at the Maloof Cup NYC. It was a great event with an amazing turnout and fun was had by all who attended.
This was the view as I walked to the contest every morning from the subway, not a bad way to start the day. The Flushing Meadows park in Queens is a historical spot not only in New York but in skateboarding as a whole. It was a shame to see the ending of an era for a spot that’s been synonymous with New York street skating for a long time…

I can only imagine how much prep work goes into making a contest of this magnitude actually happen…

The Saturday of the contest was the only day where everyone attending actually broke a sweat and even got to take home some sweet sunburn souvenirs. The all black attire wasn’t helping make it any more comfortable either. I Bumped into one of my Oklahomies Kyle Walker and he was cooking in his all black outfit too skating the course all day…

I’m still very new to the subway system, its get’s pretty confusing and quite crowded. One thing I do love about it though is that no matter what time of the day or night you get on one of the trains you know you’re going to be in for a real treat. I’m talking about the crazy ass people that all coexist on a daily basis on New York’s public transit system. Everything from drunk people, street performers, bums, and my favorite…people who fall asleep on the train. If you fall asleep then your fair game and your gettin a sticker slapped on you if I can pull it off without you noticing. I spotted my target and sized the situation up…

He was knocked the hell out so I went in for the kill…

Super sneaky ninja shit, he didn’t feel a thing!

Also ran into another Oklahomie of mine Trevor Vaughan who took a lot of these pictures for me and look who he ran into, WHAAAAAAT? Our friend Lil Jon always pops up at all types of skateboard events. Most people don’t know that he was friends growing up with with Johnny Schillereff (founder of Element skateboards) and actually used to skate. It’s cool seeing him get hyped still on skating and showing support by coming out to these kind of events…

The pro-finals had to be started a little earlier then scheduled because of the bad weather rolling in. Not even a minute after the contest wrapped the sky opened up and dumped a downpour on everyone. There wasn’t any shelter anywhere so literally everyone at the contest broke out in different directions like the cops showed up. I was staying with our East coast sales reps Mike Zalon and Jamie Wexler while I was in town. Jamie looked funny with his little pink Roca Wear umbrella until it started raining then I looked funny because my skateboard was a shitty substitute for an umbrella because all’s it did was screw my board up and I got soaking wet. I would have used one with unicorns and rainbows all over it as long as the shit kept me dry…

Gotta love the spirit of kids in New York though. It just finished down pouring rain when we walked through the park back to the hotel and ran across this. A lil rain ain’t gonna spoil their fun, they are playing in the hydrant anyways without a care in the world. Oh to be a kid again without responsibilities would be fun for awhile…

This was one of the only touristy spots I really got to see since the weather was so bad for most of the trip. Times Square at night is quite a site to see and a perfect ender to my New York trip…

I’m just happy I didn’t have to visit any Emergency rooms on this trip. I have a pretty decent streak of having to go to the Emergency room on work trips so I’m hyped I got to skip all of New York’s finer medical facilities on this trip. I hope the next time I go to New York it won’t be raining again either because I’ve now struck out twice. Thanks to our East coast sales team Mike Zalon and Jamie Wexler for giving me a place to stay and Trevor Vaughan for the photos.
