MALOOF CUP NYC PRO FINALS…

I have been out in NYC for a few days now attending the Maloof Money Cup. This was the first year that the Maloof brothers (owners of the Palms Casino and the Sacramento Kings) took their Maloof Money cup skateboard contest somewhere other then the Orange County fairgrounds where it’s usually held.

This time it was truly something unique. The course at the Orange County fairgrounds in Costa Mesa California is just that, it’s at the fair. Therefore the course is always unfortunately torn down after the contest wraps up. If you skate and you have seen the courses the California Skateparks actually builds then you know how disappointing it is when they have to tear the course down. It’s always a shame that kids can’t skate such an amazing spot because the spots only there for a few days for the contest before its demolished until the following year.

Well like I said, the New York contest this year was something completely different and something we (skaters around the world) have all been asking for and waiting to actually happen. The Maloof’s found a place at Flushing Meadows park in Queens New York at the old Worlds Fair complex. A course was designed and built that was inspired by New York skate spots old and current that is going to finally not be torn down. Yes I said “It’s not getting torn down” this time around. Instead it will stay as a permanent skatepark for everyone to enjoy which is music to skateboarders around the worlds ears.

The Maloof brothers have a really good thing going with their contest series they have been throwing. This summer there will be the usual contest which is held in Orange County California and there is also plans in the works to host a contest in South Africa next year as well. The Maloof’s and their contest are here to stay and I can’t wait to see what they are going to do next. For the Maloof’s the sky’s the limit because they have the money to do pretty damn much whatever they want so it should be interesting.

Here is one of the many re-cap videos that’s floating around the internet from the professional contest. I was blown away to see how many people turned out and to actually be there and be a part of the history that went down.

Enjoy…
