This past weekend I attended the Volcom Damn Am 2009 skateboard contest. We even had a few guys who skated in the Contest ; Dakota “Dirty” Villacana, Alec Jamir, Derrick Wilson, Auttiesh Danger, Dom Johnson, and Daniel Rodriguez. Im going to keep this one short and sweet and let the pictures do the talking….
First up is Dom Johnson. I don’t get to see Dom as often as I would like becaue he lives in Florida. Dom and Alec Jamir were the only two on the team with enough pop to enter the high ollie contest. Dom got up to 40inches which is absolutely riddiclious. Keep an eye out for Dom real soon, his future is looking bright with DGK skateboards.
Next up we have Alec Jamir. Alec tried to hold it down in the high ollie contest as well but when Louis Tolentino (Highest ollie in the game) shows up its a wrap. Alec skated all weekend and had a few solid runs. No wonder Hype skateboards put him on their flow program. He started his first run out with a proper 10 foot backside tailslide. If you have never met this guy you probably wouldn’t know that he is always in an amazingly cheerful mood every time I see him. Trevor Vaughan took all the photos for me this weekend and he captured the essence of Alec in a few photos, behold…
Looks like he’s having a blast…
More fun then before? Is it possible? Ohhhhh yes it is…
Alec doesen’t just take fun pretty pictures he rips on his board as well and that’s why you are going to hear his name in more conversations in the not so distant future. Here he is showing you how to do a frontside blunt slide.
Derrick Wilson needs a reality TV show… seriously someone needs to follow that guy around with a camera and they will capture something golden. I always have to watch my back when hes around because he thinks he can take me. So far he’s 0-3 so let’s just say stick to the skating because it works a lot better for you Derrick…hahaha. I love how Derrick has almost a bit of a laid back easy surf style. Everything he does just looks way to easy for him. Here is is with a stylish frontside smith grind…
Here he is getting it again with a nice frontside nose grind doing it for Affiliate skateboards…
Even though the course hasn’t changed much in the last few years you always know when you go to any event that the SPOT (Skate park of Tampa) puts on that your gonna have a great time. Those guys definately know how to put on a fun event and its greatly apprecieated by all who attend. We didn’t have anyone make the top ten but thats not the entire point of entering these kind of contests. It’s more about having fun, making new friends, and pogressing skating. Thanks to everyone who came out and showed their support. We will see you all in Tampa soon !!!
